Predictive Behavior Recognition The purpose of Predictive Behavior Recognition is to try to anticipate the potential danger of a particular individual by recognizing patterns of behavior.

It has been developed into a science by the researchers and investigators of the FBI's National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime in Quantico, Virginia. Their Behavioral Science Unit has devoted thousands of hours of research to understanding the criminal mind and from that research they have been able to identify characteristics of offenders based on their behavior before, during, and after committing a crime. This same technique can be useful in evaluating individuals and anticipating criminal activity.

When used, Predictive Behavior Recognition can identify certain characteristics of a potential offender, such as approximate age, sex, race, marital status, scholastic level, childhood environment, current lifestyle, social adjustment, personality, mental state, and possible motives for wrong-doing.

Predictive Behavior Recognition can also be used in a situation where the perpetrator's identity is known. Predictive Behavior Recognition can predict how the perpetrator may react to certain investigative strategies, and can determine the likelihood of guilt, or lack thereof. It can also identify the strengths and weaknesses of the subject, and how he or she will react to the stress of an interview.

Applications of Predictive Behavior Recognition

  • Disgruntled employees - are they prone to violence?
It is important to note that a completed assessment can be utilized in court and as a basis for an order of protection
  • Analyzing annoyance versus threat
  • Can suggest certain psychological or physical appearances that can narrow a search for a suspected individual
  • Provide the methodology to goad an individual to generate intent or to reestablish communications
  • Statement and document analysis
  • Assist attorneys in case preparation and witness assessment
