What do a German Shepherd a Czech Shepherd and a Yellow Labrador Retriever have in common? Onyx, Kya and Judge are the dynamic three-some who provide Explosive Detection Services in the greater New York City area.

K-9 Onyx's champion bloodlines date back to the 1920's from Czechoslovakian Border Patrol dogs. K-9 Kya is very curious about everything she comes into contact with and she loves her tennis ball. K-9 Judge is energetic in searching for explosives as he is in playing with children.

Protective Countermeasures. & Consulting, Inc., a leader in threat assessment and mitigation based in New York, coordinates the use of these clever canines to search for bombs and other potentially explosive devices in commercial real estate and multi-tenant buildings. The risk today is great. The Director of the FBI has said that domestic terrorism is a big threat to America, and workplace violence issues are increasing.

Our search team consists of one certified handler and one canine trained in bomb detection. The team is onsite at least 5 hours a week with a random service time, so there is no defined pattern of protection. They search the perimeter, loading dock, critical infrastructure and spend time in the lobby as a "security presence."

The dogs are trained and tested weekly on their ability to sniff out typical explosives. The handlers also receive weekly updates on the latest types of improvised explosives and any recent attacks. Best of all, the dogs are trained to sit quietly at the location when they detect explosives, unlike a narcotics dog, which is trained to rip up a package.

The dogs are well socialized. They are friendly and playful when they are not working, and they give the tenants an added sense of security. It is all a part of our service package, which includes:

2. • Monthly security audit service
3. • Radiation detection monitoring with K-9 service to establish 'Baselines'
4. • Quarterly security training for staff at "Lunch & Learn"
5. • Access to consulting staff on an "as needed" basis (billable)
